Prepare Your Home for Warmer Weather

Spring is here and warmer weather is beginning to make its way across the country! Is your home ready for the heat of summer? There are several steps you can take to make sure that your home can withstand the weather that the coming seasons will bring.

Schedule an AC tune-up – Having your AC unit inspected and maintained annually is important to ensure it continues to run as efficiently as possible. Your AC technician will ensure that filters are clean, electrical connections are in working order, and any broken or worn components are replaced.

Attic insulation – If you have not done so recently, consider updating your home’s attic insulation to keep your house cool during the summer months. Updated attic insulation will not only affect the temperature of your home, but it can also help you save on your power bill by preventing your AC unit from constantly running.

Prepare your outdoor living spaces – Warmer weather will have you wanting to use your outdoor living spaces more frequently. Make sure to clean and pressure wash these areas so they are readily available for use.

Check on your roof and gutters – The summer months can often bring increased rainfall. Ensuring that your roof and gutters can withstand summer storms is important to the safety of your home. Be sure to check your roof for leaks and clean any debris from your gutters.

Check outdoor plumbing – If you live in a location with especially cold winters, check the outdoor plumbing on your home as soon as the threat of overnight freezing has passes. Remove any insulators from spigots and restore the water supply.

Reverse mortgage borrowers are required to obtain an eligibility certificate by receiving counseling sessions with a HUD-approved agency. Youngest borrower must be at least 62 years old. Your monthly reverse mortgage advances may affect your eligibility for some other programs. At the conclusion of the term of the reverse mortgage loan contract, some or all of the equity in the property that is the subject of the reverse mortgage no longer belongs to you and you may need to sell or transfer the property to repay the proceeds of the reverse mortgage with interest from your assets. We will charge an origination fee, a mortgage insurance premium, closing costs or servicing fees for the reverse mortgage, all or any of which we will add to the balance of the reverse mortgage loan. The balance of the reverse mortgage loan grows over time and interest will be charged on the outstanding loan balance. You retain title to the property that is the subject of the reverse mortgage until you sell or transfer the property and you are therefore responsible for paying property taxes, insurance, and maintenance and related taxes. Failing to pay these amounts may cause the reverse mortgage loan to become due immediately and may subject the property to a tax lien or other encumbrance or to possible foreclosure. Interest on reverse mortgage is not deductible to your income tax return until you repay all or part of the reverse mortgage loan. This is not an offer to enter into an agreement.
